ABOUT US

About the Alzheimer’s Project

Alzheimer’s Project, Inc. (AP) exists to provide comfort, support, and assistance to persons with memory disorders and their caregivers in the Big Bend area.

Our goal is to enable caregivers to sustain a decent quality life as they care for their loved one, and to provide a comfortable, dignified existence for people living with dementia. In many cases, our support helps caregivers keep their loved ones in the comfort of their own home.

Our Respite Programs help caregivers stay healthy while our Support Groups help them connect with other caregivers. We also deliver professional knowledge through seminars, training classes and peer support groups. All our services are provided at no cost to participants, however, donations are greatly appreciated.

Who We Are

In 1991, guided by Reverend John Fletcher, Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church introduced an outreach program we now call the Alzheimer’s Project. The Project is founded on the premise of local volunteers helping local families in need.

First incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1992, The Alzheimer’s Project of Tallahassee merged with the Alzheimer’s Resource Center of Tallahassee in 2007 to become The Alzheimer’s Project, Inc. In addition to the many services currently provided in Leon County, The Alzheimer’s Project has gradually expanded its service base and now offers support groups in Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jackson, Jefferson, Taylor, Gulf and Wakulla counties.

The Alzheimer’s Project’s focus is delivering assistance to caregivers, as well as supporting a dignified, comfortable existence for people with dementia.

Day Respite is a primary service. It gives caregivers time to take care of their own personal and social needs. Through the years The Alzheimer’s Project has also incorporated support groups, counseling, educational opportunities, the Project Lifesaver Program and many more programs and social services.

The Alzheimer’s Project continues to provide ALL support services to the Alzheimer’s community free of charge. In 2017, The Alzheimer’s Project celebrated 26 years of service to the Big Bend Region of Florida.
