We are excited to announce John Trombetta as the new Executive Director of Alzheimer’s Project!
Prior to joining as our new Executive Director, Trombetta served as CEO for the Florida State Alliance of YMCAs. He managed program delivery, YMCA relationships throughout the state, funding, and lobbying. In addition to his management skills, Trombetta brings a strong fundraising background to the Alzheimer’s Project. He worked as the Senior Development Officer at Florida State University and as the Regional Director of Fund Development for the University of Georgia.
Trombetta succeeds Debbie Moroney, who is retiring after five years in the position. Under Moroney’s leadership, the Alzheimer’s Project improved its financial position, expanded the delivery of programs and services, and increased community awareness.
“We are excited to have John as our Executive Director,” said Blake Hayward, Board Chair for the AP. “Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders are a growing challenge for this community. With that in mind, our Board of Directors recently developed a three-year Strategic Plan. John has the background and skills to successfully implement the plan and meet those challenges.”
Trombetta grew up in Tallahassee and graduated from the Maclay School. He holds a BA from Valdosta State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He and his wife Beth Anne attend Trinity United Methodist Church. They enjoy spending time with family, traveling and are dog parents to a rescued Schnauzer, Gus. John is also an avid golfer and college sports fan.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such an important nonprofit in my hometown,” Trombetta said. “I am also fortunate to succeed someone like Debbie Moroney. She’s built a strong organization with a top notch staff. Debbie and the Board of Directors have put together a visionary Strategic Plan. I look forward to working with the Board, the staff, our donors and volunteers, to execute the plan and have an even greater impact in our community.”
Board Chair Hayward also expressed his appreciation for outgoing Executive Director Debbie Moroney. “Debbie is an exceptional leader. Her passion and commitment made the Alzheimer’s Project a much stronger organization. She’s helped a lot of local families over the previous five years.”
“I am leaving the Alzheimer’s Project in good hands,” Debbie Moroney said. “John’s work ethic, past experience, and commitment to this vulnerable population will take the organization to the next level in providing service to caregivers and those living with the disease.”
We are a local, nonprofit 501(c)(3), serving Tallahassee and the Big Bend region. For more than 28 years, the agency has provided comfort, support, and assistance to people with all types of dementia and their caregivers. Although donations are accepted, services are offered at no cost.
